Spotlight on Leadership

Worklife Support
"The role played by leaders and middle leaders is crucial in the bid to bring about sustainable improvement in the wellbeing and effectiveness of employees and the organisations in which they work.

Managers are often uniquely placed to spot issues early and therefore to ensure that preventative action is taken before a colleague’s health, wellbeing and performance begin to diminish.

Ensuring that managers understand issues relating to workplace wellbeing and the impact these can have on performance and effectiveness is therefore an important priority for local authorities and schools.

In the current climate of increased accountability, targets and budget constraints, there are also growing concerns about the wellbeing of leaders themselves, who often feel they are being pulled in numerous directions by different agendas.

Through our work with leaders under pressure, Worklife Support have seen how important it is for them to find ways of staying in touch with their most deeply-held values, sustaining and nurturing the commitment that brought them into public service in the first place.

It is essential to motivate, support and retain the public-sector leaders of today and tomorrow."
